These thrusters are currently the only way to add propulsion to your ship. They add thrust to your maximum and benefit from grouping, meaning that the more of these modules you connect, the more of a propulsion boost you are going to receive. The amount of thrust provided by a contiguous group of thruster blocks is:

   Sum Of Dimensions - 3 + Blocks^1.125

...where "Sum Of Dimensions" is the length plus the width plus the height of the smallest axis-aligned bounding box (AABB) that contains the entire thruster group. So, 64 thrusters laid out in a line will have a Sum Of Dimensions equal to 66 (because 64 long, 1 wide, 1 high), but 64 thrusters laid out in a 4*4*4 cube will have a Sum Of Dimensions equal to 12. For comparison, the "Blocks^1.125" term is approximately 107.6 in both cases.

Power Requirements

A ship that is currently firing it's thrusters requires approximately 32 e/sec for each unit of thrust.

Note that power requirements depend only upon the actual thrust rating as shown in Build Mode for the ship, and does NOT depend upon the number of thruster blocks. 5 Thruster blocks in a line provide 10.1 thrust and require approximately 323 e/sec of power, but 5 thrusters separated from each other provide 5 thrust and only require approximately 160 e/sec of power.

Linear Velocity

A ship's maximum linear velocity is not determined by the thrust these blocks provide or the ship's total mass, only the current server's speed limit. The amount of thrust against the ship's total mass determines the acceleration and deceleration capability of the ship only.

Angular Velocity

A ship's maximum angular velocity is determined only by the ship's total mass and not by the thrust these blocks provide. Massive ships will always turn more slowly than lightweight ships. The only way to make a ship turn faster is to reduce the mass of the ship. Massive ships with a huge amount of thrust can switch from going forward at maximum speed to going backwards or sideways at maximum speed very quickly, but turning their nose to point in a different direction requires a lot of time. If it's important that the ship be able to turn quickly, then the ship mass must be kept small.
