A change to Template:Block

I suggest a slight addition to Template:Block. A "full name" section. Most of the blocks have longer more technical-sounding names. i.e. Ship Core = SchemaDyne 01000x StarShip Core.
Just a suggestion. Pika3323 (talk) 08:49, 21 July 2013 (EDT)

Good suggestion, I've edited the template and already added the new fullname= parameter to the Ship Core.
--Mastergalen (talk) 08:57, 21 July 2013 (EDT)
What exactly does the type= parameter specify? The category that it's in in-game? Or what it does? i.e. Would a Weapons Computer be in "Ships" or "Computers"? Pika3323 (talk) 10:49, 21 July 2013 (EDT)
It specifies the category of the block. For a weapons computer it would be Computers. It will then also automatically add the page to the Category:Computers category.

Block variations

For blocks such as hulls and lights, where there are various colours it'd be best to animate the image in the info box (Like the Minecraft Wiki)
However, that would require the StringFunctions extension.
Could you look into this? Pika3323 (talk) 14:46, 27 July 2013 (EDT)

StringFunctions has been integrated into ParserFunctions.

Ah, I see. Well, I'm fairly certain there's some Javascript that needs to go into Mediawiki:Common.js. Pika3323 (talk) 18:14, 27 July 2013 (EDT)
What about a .gif?
--Mastergalen (talk) 18:31, 27 July 2013 (EDT)
It would make the pictures look like crap, but it can be done. An animated png could work too, but its support is very limited. Pika3323 (talk) 20:18, 27 July 2013 (EDT)
Now fixed, see Template:Animate
--Mastergalen (talk) 06:54, 29 July 2013 (EDT)
I've noticed a slight problem with the renders... Around each individual texture, there is a border, a border that doesn't show up ingame. The renders however, do have this border. This means our renders are innacurate. Should we fix them? Pika3323 (talk) 10:07, 29 July 2013 (EDT)
If an example of this is File:Ship Core.png, then it isn't even noticeable.
--Mastergalen (talk) 10:13, 29 July 2013 (EDT)
For hulls it's very noticeable. Should I just change hulls instead then? Pika3323 (talk) 10:17, 29 July 2013 (EDT)
For hulls I can't really notice it either. I would rather use the time to edit other stuff on the wiki.
--Mastergalen (talk) 10:28, 29 July 2013 (EDT)
For plants, should the images used in the template be a render similar to what's in-game? Or just the sprite? Pika3323 (talk) 12:56, 29 July 2013 (EDT)
Just the sprite, same as in the MC wiki:

"Blablabla CPU" or "Blablabla Computer"?

18:53, 30 July 2013 (EDT)

I'd go for "... Computer" and "... CPU" redirects to it.

  • Oranguntanium - duplication/wrong name on Orangutanium. Oranguntanium - extra letter.
  • File:Ice leaves.png - wrong name. Just delete it. I've made a mistake in the name when uploading a file. Ice leaves instead of Ice Leaves.Ice Leaves.png - It's right file.
Done, thanks for reporting.

We're still getting some spam, despite having ReCAPTCHA during registration. I found a few articles/extensions regarding what other wikis do to stop spam in case you'd be interested:

Thanks for the suggestions, but those are all already implemented. Spamming software such as XRumer is able to solve ReCaptchas and some spam can still pass through the blacklist.
EDIT: I've added external blacklist servers, which greatly expand the known list of spammer hostnames, so that should filter out some more spam.

Am I correct in thinking that the existing block renders are outdated now?

10:18, 19 April 2014 (EDT)

Unfortunately, with the new textures it does mean that all block renders are indeed outdated...
--Mastergalen (talk) 09:19, 20 April 2014 (EDT)
I'll get on it. Should Realistic, Cartoon, or Pixel textures be used? 10:26, 20 April 2014 (EDT)
I'd say realistic, since that seems to be the default art style the game is moving towards.
--Mastergalen (talk) 10:34, 20 April 2014 (EDT)
64, 128, or 256 px resolution? Pika3323 10:58, 20 April 2014 (EDT)
I'd go with 256 px.
--Mastergalen (talk) 12:08, 20 April 2014 (EDT)
Should I be worried about rendering them with bump mapping? Pika3323 18:02, 22 April 2014 (EDT)
Hmm, depends. Could you post an example with bump mapping and one without please? --Mastergalen (talk) 18:09, 22 April 2014 (EDT)

With "Normal" map (bump map) without Left: With bump map (I also adjusted lighting settings due to some horrific lighting issues)
Right: Without
Pika3323 18:31, 22 April 2014 (EDT)

I guess go with the left one then :) --Mastergalen (talk) 05:57, 23 April 2014 (EDT)

I am unable to upload a new grid icon for the 0C Cloaker because "This page has been protected from editing, because it is included in the following page, which is protected with the ‘cascading’ option turned on:". How shall I proceed? Pika3323 21:04, 22 April 2014 (EDT)

I've elevated your permissions so that you can now edit protected pages.
